SIDING
There are many types of siding available. The siding that you use determines the final look of your home and the amount of future maintenance that you may have to do. The two most popular sidings used in Nevada County now are stucco and Hardi-plank siding.
Some of the sidings used in the past, such as LP siding, turned out to be a disaster. The material swelled, leaked and buckled. I had the experience of completing a home with this material, and while it was in escrow, I had to tell the client that I was going to have to replace his siding. Louisiana Pacific paid for the cost of replacement.

Fiber-cement is a labor intensive material, and requires that we use sheathing behind it to provide shear (4' x 8' wood panels used for resistance to loads imposed by wind or earthquake). It also comes in 12' lengths only. Due to the cement composition, we use power shears to cut the material. The material will wear out a drill or saw without carbide tips in a heartbeat.
